Why You’ll Love This Air Fryer Pizza Recipe

  • Ready in a Heartbeat! If you or your kiddos are experiencing a case of the Hangries, these tortilla pizzas are the best medicine. Just grab a tortilla, swipe on tomato sauce, load on the cheese and pepperoni, then pop it in the air fryer. Lunch in just 7 minutes!
  • Super Convenient – Tortilla pizzas were a constant in my house growing up, and for good reason. They’re easy enough for kids to build their own—perfect as an after-school snack while Mom and Dad are still at work. But even though I’m technically an adult now, I still love making and eating them!
  • Craveable – While you might be familiar with the concept, making your tortilla pizza in an air fryer is such a game-changer in terms of texture. You’ll be rewarded with crispy crunchy crust and golden brown bubbly cheese in just minutes!
  • Customizable – I went for classic pepperoni, but don’t let that stop you from getting creative. Feel free to add whatever toppings you like to emulate your favorite order—the options are endless!

Ingredients & Substitutions

Consider the following ingredient list your jumping off point for your air fryer tortilla pizzas, then tailor it to your personal preferences.

  • Flour Tortilla – As far as I’m concerned, flour tortillas are perfect pre-made thin-crust pizza shells. You’re welcome to swap in corn tortillas if you prefer more of a tostada vibe!
  • Pizza Sauce – A few spoonfuls of red sauce adds the perfect amount of acidity and sweetness. That said, you’re welcome to make pesto or white sauce pizzas if you prefer!
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese – This mild, creamy cheese is a must-have for those Instagram-worthy cheese pulls. You can also shake things up by using whatever type of melty cheese you have on hand.
  • Pepperoni – Given the choice, I’ll almost always order a pepperoni pizza. I used turkey pepperoni here to make things a bit lighter. If you’d rather sausage or veggies, use those instead!
  • Olive Oil – I like to spritz, drizzle, or brush my pizza with olive oil to help the crust get nice and golden and help the seasoning adhere. Feel free to swap in olive oil spray if needed.
  • Italian Seasoning – This spice and herb blend packs a wallop of flavor with little effort. You can mix and match whatever seasonings you like—oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes are classic!

How To Make A Pizza With Tortillas

Making a tortilla pizza air fryer-style is so easy, even your tweens can handle it. Here’s how it’s done:

Step 1: Assemble. Place the tortilla on a cutting board or large plate. Spread the pizza sauce on top of the tortilla. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the sauce. Then place the pepperoni slices on top of the cheese.

Step 2: Oil & Season. Add a spray or drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning to the pizza, making sure to get the outside edge.

Step 3: Air Fry Pizza. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Once hot, carefully transfer the tortilla pizza to the air fryer basket. Cook for 4-5 minutes. I recommend checking on your pizza at about the 3 minute mark.

Step 4: Enjoy! Let cool slightly, cut into slices, and enjoy!

Optional Variations & Dietary Adaptations

The great thing about this air fryer personal pizza is you can make it PERSONAL. Here’s your chance to let your creativity shine! I’ve got a few ideas to help get you started:

  • Low-Carb Tortilla Pizza – Keep it keto-friendly by using your favorite low-carb tortilla wrap (e.g. HERO), then pile on the high-protein goodies of your choice.
  • Gluten-Free – Use whatever gluten-free wrap you prefer, or make a corn tortilla pizza. Also, double-check that your toppings are celiac-friendly!
  • Dairy-Free/Vegan – Swap in your favorite vegan melting “cheese” and use the vegetarian toppings of your choice. If you’re going veg-heavy, make sure to par-cook (e.g. roast, steam, or sauté them) the veggies first to make sure they don’t sog up your tortilla crust.
  • Toppings Galore These air fryer tortilla pizzas are an excellent way to clear out the fridge. I like to use whatever random leftovers I’ve accumulated throughout the week. Feel free to swap in whatever different types of cheese, meats, or veggies you have on hand, trade out the pizza sauce for pesto, tzatziki, or alfredo sauce, and don’t be afraid to branch out from your usual favorite pizza toppings! Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
    • Bacon Bits & Pineapple Chunks – Grab a fruit cup and your favorite salad topper to make a quick & easy version of a Hawaiian pizza.
    • Chicken Broccoli Alfredo – Top your tortilla with my healthy alfredo sauce, then add chunks of last night’s air fryer chicken tenderloins and roasted broccoli, plus a sprinkle of cheese.
    • Burger Pizza – Use seasoned ground beef and your favorite cheeseburger cheese as your base, then top the air-fried tortilla pizza with special sauce, shredded lettuce, chopped cherry tomatoes, and pickle relish.
    • Mediterranean Magic – Use sun-dried tomato hummus or cashew pesto as your base sauce, top with leftover lamb meatballs or falafel and feta, then drizzle with tzatziki and top with chopped cukes, sliced red onions, and halved cherry tomatoes before serving.
    • Dessert Pizza – Who says pizza has to be savory? Smear your tortilla with Nutella, dollop on some marshmallow fluff, and add a sliced banana. In minutes you’ll have a s’mores-inspired snack pizza you’re sure to love. PRO TIP: Sprinkle a little cinnamon sugar on the banana slices to help them caramelize!

Expert Tips

  • Know Your Machine – Every air fryer cooks a little differently, so make sure you know yours well. I recommend checking on the pizza about 3 minutes into cooking your first one to make sure nothing burns or gets overdone.
  • Flying Debris – Because of the way air fryers circulate the hot air, some of your toppings might get blown off. Not to worry! Just pop them back on after cooking. Alternatively, reserve some of your cheese to help glue the toppings down.
  • Top-Notch Toppings – I strongly recommend you grate your own cheese for maximum meltability. Also, make sure whatever toppings you use are prepared and/or cooked before using. The pizza won’t be in the air fryer long enough to cook any raw toppings.
  • Have Fun! In the world of pizza, there are no wrong moves. Have fun experimenting with different topping combinations to suit your mood!
