Customizations & Additions to Healthy Ground Turkey Sweet Potato Dinner…

Here are some delicious customizations, additions, and swap ideas!

  • Switch up the protein! Use ground beef, chicken, or sausage in place of the ground turkey.
  • Add different veggies! I think broccoli and bell pepper would both be tasty additions or replacements of the zucchini in this healthy dinner recipe.
  • Cheese, cheese, & more cheese! I love parmesan cheese in this recipe, but you could choose whichever cheese you’d like. And more of it of course!
  • Spice it up! I kept the seasonings in this very simple because I wanted the dish to to be simple, but feel free to spice it up. Add more seasonings, spices, or even the fresh herbs of your choice!

      • This was a very tasty recipe. I had to use ground beef, and added a chopped onion while browning. I also had to substitute shredded Asiago for the Parmesan. It was so tasty, and easy to make. We’ll definitely be having it again!

  21. This recipe turned out great and I even changed it. Soccer ran late and I didn’t prepare before. I chopped the sweet potatoes and pressure cooked for 10 minutes and used a frozen microwavable bag of green and yellow zucchini. I convinced and put in the oven for 5 minutes with the cheese. SO GOOD and so helpful with my time crunch to eat and get kids to bed. Thank you!

  36. Hi there! Can this be made in a slow cooker or crockpot?

  37. This is my first time EVER leaving a review on a recipe. Considering the countless times I’ve made this dish, I felt it was only right to leave my 5-star review. A wonderfully healthy, filling, and delicious meal. Thank you for sharing!!

  38. Absolutely delicious! Added onion and fresh garlic to my ground Turkey when cooking. I also like to add worcestershire to the ground Turkey (makes it taste more beefy!). And I topped it with fresh cut parsley! This was a delicious dish! Wish it would let me post my pic!

  39. Can you tell me the severs size for meal prep?

  40. Could you air fry the sweet potato’s instead of the oven?

  41. I admit I was skeptical. Just looking at the ingredients, I thought it was going to fall flat. I WAS WRONG!! It totally works!! It’s a new staple on our dinner menu. Thank you for sharing!!

  42. Have you made this into a freezer meal before?

  43. What size pan do you use? Does it matter in the cooking?

    Thank you!

    • Kayla Berman

I have used multiple different sized pans! It doesn’t really matter. I have done 9X9 and 9X13 and the results have been pretty much the same! 🙂

  44. This was delicious, thank you!
Is this meal able to be frozen?

  45. Made this for dinner, and SO YUMMY!! Delicious and nutritious. Definitely going to make this again.

  46. Mary J Allison

I made this last night and I would say it’s 4 servings. I added onions to the turkey and also some left over chopped up mushrooms. As well, I just put the cubed sweet potatoes in skillet with a little olive oil and sauted them only because I just didn’t have the time to oven roast them. You could easily eat make this as two servings because, although it’s not saucey, it is very tasty and you know it’s good for you. Thanks for the recipe!

  47. Jess Hollister

I’ve never been so happy to have found a recipe before until I found this one! I’ve been making this now for over a year and it’s in constant rotation at least twice a month. It combines a great mix of protein, veggie, carbs and CHEESE! My husband and I both love this dish since it doesn’t feel heavy, yet still feels hearty and healthy while still tasty. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

  48. Loved this recipe it was so flavorful and quick to make.

  49. My daughter and I love this recipe. I have used it topped over scrambled eggs also. 😋

  50. Great recipe!! I subbed Turkey for roasted chick peas and added yellow squash, mushrooms, onions, artichoke hearts, carrots, and some fresh dill. SO GOOD

  51. So very good! Healthy and easy to make! I did add in an onion as other reviews have stated. Definitely will make again.

  52. Honestly this is crazy how simple yet delicious this is! I’ve made it 4-5 times now and both my fiancé and I love it for a quick and easy meal. Thank you!!

  53. This was almost gone after one night! The rosemary flavor on the sweet potatoes were DIVINE. I will be making this again and again!

  54. YUM! I made this recipe with ground chicken because I prefer the texture. I also used avocado oil instead of olive oil since It has a higher smoke point. It was so delicious! Next time I would also add onions. This recipe is healthy, filling, and so flavorful!

  55. How much salt do you use? I want to make sure it has enough but not too salty.

  56. To be honest I wasn’t expecting much from this recipe – so few ingredients and so simple but WOW. This was SO tasty!! Everyone loved it. It will be going on my short list for regular meal planning.

  57. So I have never made a comment even on a recipe, however I feel like you deserve one. I have only made this recipe 10 times plus. I’m always sharing it. This recipe is super delicious. I tend to add way more rosemary and cheese just because I love it! Great Jon on such a tasty and healthy recipe. Currently making it as I leave this comment! Yum Yum!

  58. We love making this! We add sriracha and rice sometimes too.

Do you ever freeze it after baking? Wondering how it saves and reheats.

  59. Heather Scott

Do you put the uncooked zucchini in with the ground turkey and baked sweet potatoes and cook it for ten minutes? It doesn’t need longer to cook? Just making sure…thank you!

    • Kayla Berman

Yes, you put the uncooked zucchini with the cooked turkey and potatoes! You’ll bake for 10 minutes, add the cheese and olive oil, and bake for another 10 minutes. It is all it needs to cook through! Hope this helps! 🙂

  60. One of my favorite meals! This is part of my monthly meal rotation and a family favorite. Only change I make is to add a thinly sliced red onion in with the sweet potatoes at the beginning of the baking process. My husband and son are excited every time this is for dinner, and there are plenty of leftovers for 3 lunches for me. Thanks for the recipe!

  61. I wasn’t sure if we would like this with the sweet potatoes, but I was looking for something different to try. My husband and I both really liked it. I did add cauliflower that I needed to cook ( I seasoned it and added it when the sweet potoes had about 10 minutes left to cook their first time in). I also doubled the turkey because I wanted to use all of what I had.
I will definitely be making it again.
    Thanks for the recipe

  62. Rachel Glas

Love this recipe! I would add cooked onion to the ground turkey
