Why You’ll Love This McDonald’s Snack Wrap Recipe

The crispy chicken snack wrap from McDonald’s was my all time favorite item on the menu! The ranch version specifically. I may have shed an actual tear when they discontinued it. But I have solved all my problems, and possibly yours too, with this homemade version. It is:

  • SO EASY: Y’all when I say easy on this one I really mean it. You only need 5 ingredients and less than 15 minutes of your time. Plus there is pretty much zero prep work required. It is but a dream!
  • Tastes Like The Real Deal: I am truly not kidding you when I say that when I first bit into one of these snack-sized chicken wraps I was brought all the way back to my childhood. Going through the drive thru in the back of my mom’s car! It tastes just like the real thing and is incredibly delicious.
  • Not Bad For You: I don’t think the original McDonald’s snack wraps were that bad for you, they seem like one of the healthier offerings. However, this version is even better! You can make a bunch of swaps to keep it lighter – higher in protein and lower in calories. I do low carb tortillas! You can also do a lightly breaded chicken tender, reduced fat cheese, and a light ranch. It’s like good-for-you fast food!

Ingredients & Substitutions

Crispy chicken snack wraps require only 5 ingredients! It is kind of unbelievable.

A very short grocery list is the only thing that stands between you and the nostalgic lunch of your dreams. I mean I haven’t had a true chicken snack wrap in years … but this homemade version tastes pretty much identical in my opinion.

Seriously I took one bite and was transported back to the good old days. Ugh, it is SO good!

  • Chicken Tenders: I think frozen chicken strips or tenders are truly the perfect way to achieve that classic crispy chicken feel in these homemade snack wraps. I personally love the Perdue Crispy Chicken Strips – they are the best I have found on the market.
  • Flour Tortillas: Call me crazy but one of my favorite parts of this recipe is the lush, soft tortilla that everything is nestled in. Perhaps it is because I am such a carb lover! Anyway, I recommend using taco sized tortillas here, they are the perfect snack size to contain one chicken strip.
  • Cheddar Cheese: I recommend adding a hefty does of the shredded orange cheese to these wraps. So yum!
  • Shredded Lettuce: I love the crunchy freshness that shredded lettuce provides these snack-sized wraps. Plus a little health? I mean iceberg lettuce pretty much has zero nutritional value, but it can’t hurt to add some green.
  • Ranch Dressing: These are specifically chicken ranch snack wraps – my preferred flavor! The creamy, zesty dressing is the perfect condiment here. Feel free to use a store bought favorite or try out my healthier, high protein Greek Yogurt Ranch!

How To Make A Snack Wrap

It is actually incredibly easy to make a McDonald’s Snack Wrap at home! If you have been missing the tasty bite since 2016, when it devastatingly left the fast food chain’s menu, there is no longer a reason to be sad.

You can make it yourself, in your own kitchen, in literally 15 minutes! Fifteen minutes is honestly a conservative estimate – you could probably manage in ten.

Step 1: Prepare the chicken tenders. Cook the frozen chicken tenders however you’d like, I recommend the air fryer. You could also just bake according to the package directions. For the air fryer, air fry at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Step 2: Assemble the snack wraps. To each soft flour tortilla, add a layer of shredded lettuce. Place the cooked chicken tender on top. Finally sprinkle the shredded cheese and drizzle the ranch dressing on top.

Step 3: Serve and enjoy!

McDonald’s Snack Wrap Recipe Variations

I personally believe that these chicken wraps are incredible as is! They are easy AND delicious. My keys to success in the kitchen. However there are a few changes or variations you can make for it to be perfect for you. Here are my suggestions:

  • Sauce: I think the easiest way to switch up or customize this recipe is in the sauce. I use ranch dressing – a classic. BUT you could really use any condiment under the sun. McDonalds’ uses honey mustard as well as ranch so that is a great option. Or used – since these delectable wraps don’t exist anymore!! You could also try others – barbecue sauce, mayo (spicy, chipotle, or regular), caesar dressing, etc.
  • Cheese: To keep things authentic to the masterpiece that is the original Micky D’s snack wrap I used cheddar cheese. It’s the classic orange cheese! However, feel free to use any other cheese you’d likee. I’d recommend parmesan cheese, Swiss cheese, mozzarella cheese, or even feta cheese.
  • Homemade Chicken: I love the ease that using frozen chicken provides here! But of course you could make your own from scratch. Perhaps chop up some of my Baked Chicken Cutlets or use my easy Air Fryer Chicken Bites.

Expert Tips

Air fry the chicken! The air fryer is my new favorite kitchen appliance. Honestly my new best friend! I just think air frying is the quickest, most effective way to prepare lots of things – especially frozen chicken tenders. They just get super crispy! Plus the clean-up and wait time is way less than baking in the oven. I also love preparing frozen french fries in the air fryer.

Low carb tortillas! I absolutely love to use these Zero Net Carbs Tortillas. I find them to pretty similar, actually very similar, in taste and feel to regular tortillas. But they keep this recipe a bit lower in calories and higher in protein. Which is something that I always love! It’s a great way to enjoy this fast food favorite in a way that is better for you.

Street taco sized! I find that street taco flour tortillas are the perfect size for these wraps. Snack size if you will! They wrap around one chicken tender perfectly. If you use a larger tortilla it would become less like a snack wrap, that you can eat 2-3 of per serving, and more like one big wrap.

Serving Suggestions

I love to enjoy these quick and easy snack wraps for a fast workday lunch or dinner on a busy night! They are truly perfect for that.

My recommended side would be french fries … duh! I suggest you check out my Air Fryer Frozen French Fries guide. It includes the best temperature and time to air fry all sorts of frozen fries – waffle, sweet potato, fast food, and crinkle cut.

If you want something a bit healthier, but still in the potato family I suggest my Garlic Parmesan Roasted Potatoes or Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes.

Looking for something even lighter? My first thought would be some fresh apple slices – the other classic McDonald’s side. Or a veggie – perhaps Parmesan Smashed Broccoli or Honey Garlic Green Beans.

Storing Suggestions

I don’t highly recommend preparing this McDonald’s Snack Wrap Recipe and storing it for later. There really is no need! It only takes 10 minutes of active cooking time – the air frying of the frozen chicken tenders. I would really recommend just preparing these wraps as needed!

However, if you do have leftovers you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep best for about 1-2 days.

FAQs

What is the McDonald’s Snack Wrap?

The McDonald’s Snack Wrap description is as follows … “Made with 100% Canadian raised seasoned chicken topped with shredded lettuce, shredded cheese and ranch sauce wrapped in a soft white flour tortilla.”

It is made with Canadian raised chicken because unfortunately the delectable menu item is no longer available in the United States, only in Canada. A truly heartbreaking fact! But no worries – you can either travel north or follow the recipe below to experience the joy that is the snack wrap.

I personally cannot travel to Canada every time I get a hankering for one of these wraps, so I had to learn how to make them myself.

What happened to the McDonald Ranch Chicken Snack Wraps?

Snack wraps were unfortunately removed from the McDonald’s menu several years ago, back in 2016. They were my personal favorite item to order – so it was a true tragedy for me.

They were removed from the menu since they were very complicated to prepare in the timely manner that is required from the fast food chain. Employees said the difficult item was negatively effecting the service time in their stores -so it was removed!

Can I use grilled chicken in these wraps?

Absolutely! The original snack wraps came with two options – crispy chicken or grilled chicken.

I always chose the crispy chicken tenders, but grilled would be a lighter option.
