Perfect Classic Stovetop Oatmeal

I love oatmeal in all its different shapes and sizes! There’s baked oatmeal, overnight oatmeal, single serve oatmeal, and stovetop oatmeal.

But the kind of oatmeal that holds perhaps the most special place in my heart is the good old, classic, thick oatmeal. The one you find at a diner or a continental breakfast!

Bananas & Cream Oatmeal is a spruced up, way more tasty version of that. It’s creamy, sweet, simple, and pretty much the perfect classic stovetop oatmeal!

Made with only a few simple ingredients like old fashioned oats, milk, and brown sugar – this recipe serves as the best base to all your favorite toppings!

It is truly one of the best breakfast recipes there is.

Ingredients

This healthy breakfast recipe is made with only a handful of simple ingredients! You probably already have most of them on hand too.

Ingredient Notes

  • Oats: The base of this recipe is 1/2 cup old fashioned oats! I love Quaker.
  • Milk: The liquid used in this stovetop oatmeal is 1 cup milk. You can use whichever milk you’d like – soy milk, whole milk, or even oat milk. I personally use unsweetened almond milk!
  • Banana: Overripe bananas add the perfect natural sweetness to this breakfast recipe. Mashed bananas are mixed into the oats and sliced bananas are added on top. You’ll need 1 banana in total.
  • Brown Sugar: 1 tbsp light brown sugar adds an extra bit of sweetness here.
  • Cream: Heavy cream accounts for the cream part of bananas and cream! Or you could use half & half. 1-2 tbsp should do the job!
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 tsp vanilla extract adds that classic taste to this dish.
  • Cinnamon: Lastly, 1/2 tsp cinnamon gives this banana oatmeal a delicious warm flavor.
