Ingredients & Substitutions

This creamy peanut butter cheesecake dip is made with only a handful of simple ingredients! A block of cream cheese, butter, rich peanut butter, and lots of chocolate come together to make the most scrumptious sweet treat.

It’s like peanut butter cups and cheesecake had a baby. And that baby is in dip form! If that sounds like your dessert dream come true, you are in the right place. Here is what you’ll need to grab from the grocery store:

  • Cream Cheese: The base of this reese’s peanut butter cup dip is softened cream cheese! It gives that delicious tangy cheesecake flavor and creamy texture.
  • Butter: The other half of the base is a bit of unsalted butter! For more of those rich and creamy vibes.
  • Peanut Butter: This sweet dessert dip of course has peanut butter! You’ll need the good old classic stuff, like Skippy or Jiff.
  • Powdered Sugar: This fine sugar adds the perfect sweetness here.
  • Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract adds more of that deep, sweet, floral flavor.
  • Peanut Butter Cups: Chopped peanut butter cups are the best part of this delicious dessert dip recipe. I like to use the mini cups because I find the peanut butter chocolate ratio to be supreme.
  • Chocolate Chips: You can never have enough chocolate, so this recipe calls for chocolate chips too. I think mini chocolate chips work best!

Recipe Variations

Peanut butter cream cheese dip is SO delicious exactly as is! Like dangerously, addictively delicious.

But as always, there is room for substitutions and/or additions to make this simple recipe as scrumptious as possible for you! Here are some ideas:

  • Nut Butter: This sweet cream cheese dip is full of peanut butter flavor! Hence the name. BUT if you have an allergy or don’t like peanut butter, you can still enjoy this delicious treat. Just use almond butter or cashew butter! You can even find chocolate almond butter cups in grocery stores or online.
  • Drizzle: I serve this creamy peanut butter dip with an extra drizzle of melted peanut butter! YUM. But a drizzle of hot fudge, chocolate sauce, or caramel sauce would be incredibly tasty too.
  • Chocolate Candy: Reese’s peanut butter cups are the chocolate candy star here. However, others work well too! You could keep it similar with Reese’s Pieces. Or change it up with Kit Kats, Snickers, or M&Ms. A variation with any or all of those would be perfect for a Halloween party!
  • Chocolate Chips: White chocolate, dark chocolate, semi sweet, or milk chocolate chips would all be wonderful additions to this delicious dip. You could also throw in chopped chocolate bars! Peanut butter chips would be lovely as well.

Expert Tips

Use softened cream cheese and butter for this peanut butter cheesecake dip! You can either let them both sit out at room temperature until softened or pop in the microwave for 10-15 seconds on each side. Just make sure to not completely melt them.

Use creamy classic peanut butter! The good old stuff, like Skippy or Jif, will work best. You could try crunchy peanut butter or natural peanut butter, but I can’t promise you will get the same resulting creamy, soft, and fluffy dip.

Do not let peanut butter cream cheese dip sit out at room temperature for longer than 2 hours! It will not be safe to serve or eat after this amount of time.

Pop in the fridge and chill before serving! I just love the texture of this dip after it has been in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or longer. This chilling time also allows the flavors to develop even further.

Remember to garnish! Although this dip is wonderfully delicious, it doesn’t exactly look like it is without some sprucing up. Make sure to add an extra drizzle of peanut butter and sprinkling of Reese’s cups on top before serving. This way it will look just a delicious as it tastes.
