About This Recipe
I always find myself craving an afternoon frozen treat on a hot summer day! You know, a little something refreshing and tasty to power me through the rest of the day. Like Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars or Chocolate Strawberry Clusters.
Protein-Packed Popsicles check all of those boxes! Refreshing? Absolutely. Tasty? With their sweet mixed berry flavor, you bet. But most importantly, with 7 grams of protein each, these popsicles will definitely power you through the rest of your busy day.
It’s an ice cream-like frozen treat, without the sugar crash and with the nutrients to actually keep you full. Now what is better than that? Plus, this high protein recipe is also:
- Guilt Free: I know we’ve pretty much covered this already, but I’m re-iterating it! These popsicles pack 7 grams of protein each. And are only about 60 calories! Now that is a breakfast treat, fun snack, or bedtime sweet that I can feel good about.
- Quick & Easy: Made in 5 minutes in a blender with no chopping or cooking necessary, this no-bake treat is as easy as pie.
- Made With 5 Ingredients: When I say you only need a handful of ingredients for a recipe, I truly mean it with this one. Plus you most likely have a couple of them on hand already.
- Customizable: You can make so many different protein popsicle flavors here by switching up the protein powder, yogurt, and fruit you use. Check out the Ingredients & Substitutions and Variations sections to see all my tasty ideas!
Ingredients & Substitutions
These protein-packed popsicles require only 5 simple ingredients! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Vanilla Greek Yogurt: The base of this creamy summer treat is 1 cup greek yogurt! I like to use vanilla greek yogurt for extra sweetness and flavor, but you could use any flavor you’d like. Or use plain yogurt to keep things low sugar.
- Almond Milk: You’ll also add 1/4 cup almond milk. For creamier popsicles, opt for a richer milk – maybe oat milk or regular dairy-filled milk. Since unsweetened almond milk is made with a lot of water, it can make these popsicles slightly icy.
- Mixed Berries: 1 cup of mixed berries gives these pops their scrumptious berry flavor and beautiful purple color! I used a combination of fresh strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Alternatively, you could use any fresh fruit of your choice – perhaps mango, peaches, cherries, or banana.
- Honey: 1 tbsp honey gives these healthy popsicles the perfect touch of extra refined-sugar free sweetness.
- Vanilla Protein Powder: To give these popsicles the protein boost they are named for, you will need to add 1 serving of protein powder. I use vanilla, but chocolate protein powder would work too.

How To Make This Recipe
These homemade popsicles with protein are incredibly easy to make!
All you need to do is take 5 minutes to blend up the short list of healthy ingredients, pour the mixture into a popsicle mold, and freeze overnight. You’ll wake up to the most delightful high protein treat.
Step 1: Blend ingredients. Add the greek yogurt, almond milk, honey, and vanilla protein powder to a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.
Step 2: Pulse in berries. Next add the mixed berries to the yogurt mixture. Blitz or pulse the blender until the berries are combined into the mixture, but not completely blended in. It will only take a few seconds.
Step 3: Pour & freeze. Pour the popsicle mixture into a popsicle mold. Cover the mold and add a popsicle stick to each one. Freeze overnight.
Step 4: Remove from the mold. Remove the popsicles from the freezer the next day. Carefully remove the protein pops from the mold. See the Expert Tips section for all my tips on this!
Step 5: Serve, store, & enjoy! Store the popsicles in the freezer to enjoy throughout the week as the perfect afternoon snack or nighttime treat.
Optional Variations & Dietary Adaptions
The best part about these popsicles, besides being full of protein AND refreshingly delicious, is that they are extremely customizable! There are endless creative ways to make this simple base recipe your own.
- Protein Powder: One of the easiest ways to switch up the flavor profile of these protein pops is by switching up the scoop of protein powder you use. Use any flavor and type you’d like!
- Low Sugar: Looking to limit the added sugar in this frozen treat? Leave out the honey and use a plain greek yogurt instead of vanilla.
- Vegan: If you follow a vegan diet, but still want to enjoy this recipe. Do not worry! They are easy to make vegan. Simply swap in a vegan plant-based yogurt and use maple syrup instead of honey. You will also need a plant based vegan protein powder, rather than whey protein powder – Garden of Life is my favorite.
- Mix-Ins: There are so many extra ingredients you could mix into these protein powder popsicles! Extra fresh fruit, peanut butter, chocolate chips, or mixed nuts would be my choice.
- Protein Shake: A great way to add extra protein to this recipe is to swap out the almond milk with a protein shake. It would add more flavor too! Here are some of my favorite protein shakes: Core Power, regular Fairlife, or Premier Protein.
Expert Tips
- Since the protein powder provides a lot of the flavor in these popsicles, make sure you use a protein powder that you enjoy the taste of. If you do not enjoy the taste of the powder, and you mix it into the pops, you will not enjoy them. It is as simple as that!
- I like to leave some fruit chunks in these popsicles, so I do not blend the berries completely in. If you prefer no chunks, blend the mixture until completely smooth.
- I recommend freezing this recipe overnight. Some say 4-6 hours will do, but I think more hours are necessary to completely freeze the popsicles.
- Use a silicone mold for your popsicles. This makes removing them much easier!
- If you are still having difficulty removing them from the mold, I recommend placing the mold in warm water. Not hot water, just water that is slightly warm to the touch!
FAQs
I am not a dietician or nutritionist, but in my opinion – yes! These popsicles are definitely a healthy choice. They are made with all good-for-you, wholesome ingredients … only greek yogurt, almond milk, fresh berries, protein powder, and honey.
Each popsicle has about 60 calories and 7 grams of protein! This makes them a high protein, low calorie frozen treat. They are great for weight loss or if you are just trying to eat a healthier diet! These pops are also full of fiber and antioxidants from the berries.
All in all, they are a fantastic frozen treat alternative to your traditional ice cream or sugary popsicles.
Yes, I don’t see why not! I do think the popsicle texture might be slightly different though without the ingredient.
I recommend using a silicone popsicle mold for this recipe. Here is the exact one I use from Amazon!
Silicone molds are a great option because they are flexible, nonstick, and easy to clean.
Your popsicles should be fairly easy to remove from a silicone mold by just gently pressing on the bottom and pushing them up.
But if you are having difficulties, don’t worry! This can happen. I like to place the popsicle mold in warm water, enough that the entire popsicle is covered, for a few minutes. This will loosen everything up.
Afterwards, the popsicles should slide right out! Just make sure you don’t use hot water, which could melt your treat.
One you remove the popsicles from their mold I recommend storing them in an airtight container or bag in the freezer.
If you are stacking the protein pops in a container, place a piece of parchment paper between each layer. This will prevent them from sticking or freezing together!
It is up to you if you’d like to share these popsicles with your kids!
There are some differing opinions on whether or not protein powder is safe for kids, but it is generally believed to be fine if the portion does not exceed the recommended amount.
Since one serving of protein powder is spread out among 8 popsicles here, I would say it is completely fine for kids to enjoy one. As each pop contains such a small amount!

I have not had a chance to make these so far but I am really excited about making them. I have to order the mold and sticks which I will do after this.
