What is edible cookie dough?

Edible cookie dough has definitely become a trend in recent years. It is even sold in some grocery stores and restaurant these days! And it is exactly what it sounds like … cookie dough that is completely edible. You are actually supposed to eat raw, meaning no baking! I think it is a brilliant concept because lets be honest we all eat the dough anyway. And now you can feel 100% safe doing so!

How is Vegan Edible Cookie Dough different than regular cookie dough?

The main difference between most edible cookie doughs and regular cookie dough is a lack of eggs. This makes it safe from the scary salmonella!

But I took it a couple steps further with this Vegan Edible Cookie Dough. This version has no dairy, no eggs, and no raw flour! We’re using vegan butter and oat flour here. Oat flour is gluten free and is a less processed option that also does not have to be heat treated to eat raw, as regular all purpose flour does.

So not only is this recipe completely safe to eat, but it is also a bit healthier of an option than most edible doughs. Its a true win win!

Ingredients needed for Gluten Free Edible Cookie Dough…

All you need for the most delicious edible dough is a few simple ingredients! The dough is completely vegan, refined sugar free, and even gluten free if you use certified gluten free oats.

  • Vegan Butter: The base of this edible cookie dough is vegan butter
  • . It adds that classic taste without the dairy! You’ll need 1/2 cup.
  • Coconut Sugar: Add 1 cup of coconut sugar to this recipe. It is a refined sugar free sweetener with a rich & delicious flavor!
  • Oat Flour: This vegan dessert calls for 1 1/2 cups of oat flour. I make my own by blending up oats until a fine flour forms, but you can also buy at the store!
  • Dairy Free Chocolate Chips: I love to use these dairy free semi sweet chocolate chips in all my treats. You’ll ned 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp here!
  • Almond Milk: A splash of almond milk just adds an extra bit of moisture to this cookie dough. 1 tbsp to be exact!
  • Vanilla Extract: 2 tsp of vanilla extract adds the best flavor to this recipe!
  • Salt: Last but certainly not least, add 1/4 tsp of salt to balance out the sweet.
