Substitutions & Additions
There are a few substitutions and additions you could make to this recipe for it to meet your personal preference, tastes, or needs!
Tuna: You or one of your family members not a fan of tuna? No problem! Simply swap in some canned chicken.
Mayo: Mayo can be replaced with greek yogurt here! Greek yogurt is a healthier option and using it is a great way to add a protein boost to this already protein packed recipe.
You can also do 1/2 mayo, 1/2 greek yogurt.
Seasoning: The lemon pepper blend seasons this tuna salad perfectly, but if you’re looking for an extra flavor boost try garlic powder, onion powder, or dried parsley.

Expert Tips
Use high quality, solid white tuna for the best results! I am a major fan of tuna, but trust me you do not want to skimp on quality when it comes to canned fish.
Add the lemon pepper seasoning bit by bit! Depending on the exact lemon pepper seasoning blend you have, you may need to use more or less than instructed. You also may not have to use salt and pepper, if your blend is heavy on those to begin with.
If enjoying this tuna salad leftover, make sure to liven it back up! It will dry up a bit as it sits in the fridge so I recommend adding a bit of mayo or extra fresh lemon juice. This will bring it right back to its original deliciousness.
If you think raw red onion has too strong of a flavor, soak it in cold water for a few seconds. This gets rid of that slightly offensive onion flavor and leaves a milder one perfect for salads.
Frequently Asked Questions
Lemon pepper seasoning is a blend of lemon zest and black peppercorns! Some blends also have additional ingredients – like garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
You should be able to find lemon pepper seasoning in most grocery stores. I use the Frontier Co-Op Blend that I found at Whole Foods!
If you can’t find it at the grocery store you can also purchase it online. Here is one from Amazon!
