Ingredients needed for Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies…

These chocolate chip cookies are made with all healthy and wholesome ingredients! It makes them absolutely delicious gluten free, dairy free, and refined sugar free treat.

  • Cashew Butter: I love using nut butters as the base of healthy sweets and treats! They work perfectly. You’ll need 1/2 cup of cashew butter here.
  • Coconut Sugar: Coconut Sugar is my favorite refined sugar free sweetener to bake with. It is rich, delicious, and similar to brown sugar in my opinion. Add 1/3 cup.
  • Egg: Add 1 egg for binding and moisture.
  • Applesauce: This gluten free cookie recipe calls for a tiny bit of applesauce. 1 tbsp to be exact!
  • Almond Flour: Almond Flour makes these cookies completely gluten free and grain free. It also gives them a soft and fluffy texture. 2/3 cup is all you need!
  • Chocolate Chips: This recipe calls for 1/4 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips, but add however much your heart desires! These are my favorite dairy free chips.
  • Vanilla Extract: Add 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract for that classic flavor.
  • Baking Powder: 1/2 tsp of baking powder helps to bake these cookies to perfection!
  • Salt: Lastly, add a pinch of salt (1/8 tsp) to balance out the sweet.

Besides the fact that these cookies are absolutely delicious, they are also incredibly easy to make! They come together in one bowl in less than 45 minutes, which is sometimes the longest I can wait to eat cookies. They also make barely any mess! I am so used to my kitchen looking like an actual tornado hit after I bake, but not with these. Easy, healthy, and delicious … I don’t know about you guys, but there isn’t much more I need in a cookie.

  1. Set the oven to 350 degrees.

  3. Next add in the dry ingredients – almond flour, baking powder, and salt. Combine until smooth.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  6. Remove the dough from the fridge and scoop about tablespoon sized balls onto a greased or parchment paper lined baking sheet.  Flatten with your finger tips into a cookie shape.  (You should be able to make 10 cookies.)

Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookie tips…

Follow the tips below for the perfect cookies each and every time.

  • Flakey salt … Add lots on top! There is just nothing better than a salty sweet combo.
  • Make sure to chill the dough
  • If the cookie dough is a little sticky when trying to roll into balls … wet your hands! This is the best trick I’ve found to help.
  • Line the baking tray with parchment paper … makes for such easy cleanup!
  • Extra chocolate on top! Because why not.

Can I make substitutions to this recipe?

Yes, you can definitely make a few substitutions to almond flour chocolate chip cookies! Here are some of my ideas.

  • Chocolate: Use dark or milk chocolate instead of the semi-sweet if you’d like. You could also use a chopped bar instead of chips! Then you’ll have chocolate chunk cookies … another favorite of mine.
  • Peanut Butter: I use cashew butter in these healthy cookies for a neutral taste, but you could totally swap with peanut butter. Or almond!
  • Coconut Sugar: Coconut sugar can usually be replaced with any other granulated sugar. I have not tested for this recipe, but I think it should work!

How to best store these cookies…

Store chocolate chip cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 5 days – 1 week. You can also place in the refrigerator for longer storage. There they will keep for 1 – 2 weeks!

Can I freeze this recipe?

Yes, totally! Simply place the cookies in a freezer safe Ziploc bag or container and put in the freezer. They will last a couple of months and you can just heat up a cookie in the microwave whenever that sweet tooth hits.

  1. Hi, can I substitute the cashew butter for a different nut butter? What nut butter would work best?

    • Hi! Yes, you definitely can. Any nut butter would work, but besides cashew butter, almond butter has the most neutral flavor and won’t overpower the cookies. Peanut butter will make your cookies taste like peanuts, but would also be delicious!

  2. These were so good and I will definitely make again!! My sister who is dairy free loved these and I think they are a great healthier alternative to regular cookies, and they don’t make you feel sick from the sugar like regular cookies do!

  3. These cookies were SO good. The only thing I subbed was PB for the cashew butter because that’s all I had on hand. My mother does not have any dietary restrictions and said that these were the best cookies I’ve ever made! (And believe me, I’ve made a lot of cookies) 🙂 thanks for the delicious recipes

  4. Very yummy! However I was expecting it to be a little crispier on the outside, any recommendations? Flavor was on point though.

    • Kayla Berman

Hi Gabriella! I’m glad you enjoyed! These cookies are actually not really supposed to be crispy on the outside. They are definitely more of a soft baked cookie!

  5. I’ve made this recipe about 15 times now. Love under baking them so they’re really gooey. Great cookies!

  6. Hi,will the recipe work if I use banana instead of applesauce,or what can I replace it with?
