Easy & Healthy Asian Turkey Meatballs

Last Updated on May 3, 2022 by Kayla Berman

I would have to say that one of my all time favorite flavors when it comes to lunch or dinner is some sort of sweet asian inspired sauce! I love some good Chinese takeout, but I also love making my own healthier versions. My go-to to is a soy sauce and honey situation! I love this combination on salmon and on shredded chicken. So delicious! The other day I was thinking about new ways I could enjoy this flavor and meatballs came to mind. I absolutely love turkey meatballs, so I thought combining two of my favorites into one dish would be the move. And let me tell you, it one hundred percent was! These Easy & Healthy Asian Turkey Meatballs are so unbelievably simple, but so flavorful and delicious! I know for a fact that they will be a new regular of mine.

What you need to make these Easy & Healthy Asian Turkey Meatballs!

  • ground turkey
  • almond flour
  • egg
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • sesame oil
  • tamari
  • honey
  • salt

This recipe basically consists of two parts, the meatballs themselves and the sauce. Each of which only contain 5 ingredients, and salt but I don’t really count that as an ingredient! This makes the recipe super simple and easy. Which is exactly what I look for!

The meatballs are only made with ground turkey, almond flour, an egg, and a few simple seasonings. The almond flour replaces breadcrumbs in this recipe which are typically used in meatballs to hold them together! Almond flour does the job perfectly and also makes these meatballs gluten free. Next the sauce is made with four simple ingredients! The ingredients are tamari, sesame oil, honey, and garlic powder. Tamari is a gluten replacement for soy sauce! I also used sesame oil to add to the asian flavors going on in the sauce! However, if you don’t have either of these you can simply swap the tamari with soy sauce and the sesame oil with avocado or olive oil.

How to make these Easy & Healthy Asian Turkey Meatballs!

  1. Set the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Combine the ground turkey, almond flour, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Roll the ground turkey mixture into balls. The mixture should make 12 meatballs.
  4. Place the meatballs on a parchment paper or foil lined baking tray.
  5. Bake for 15-18 minutes. I would just check one of the meatballs to make sure they are cooked through.
  6. While the meatballs are baking combine the tamari, sesame oil, honey, and garlic powder in a pan on medium heat.
  7. Remove the meatballs from the oven and place in the pan.
  8. Simmer the meatballs in the sauce for a few minutes. You know they are done when the sauce begins to thicken and the meatballs have browned.
  9. I recommend serving with brown jasmine rice and some stir fry vegetables. Enjoy!
Easy & Healthy Asian Turkey Meatballs

I highly recommend serving the meatballs with some rice, I chose brown jasmine, and stir fry veggies. I used the pre-packaged stir fry veggie mix from Trader Joe’s and it worked out perfectly! You could also use frozen stir fry vegetables or simply your favorites.

I would also recommend doubling or even tripling the sauce! I am a big sauce fan and typically love to pour it all over my food, so if you’re like me I would definitely make some more of it than detailed in this recipe. This would also be perfect for leftovers!
