Green Bean Casserole
I’m back with another Thanksgiving recipe! You guys know that my creative juices do not always flow with savory recipes, but I have to tell you … something about Thanksgiving sides is just different. It is probably because I would make endless Thanksgiving side recipes if I could. They truly make the holiday meal in my opinion! I have always been a side dish gal on the holiday, but I have to say I have not always been a Green Bean Casserole gal. Mostly because the casseroles on the table always looked like soupy grey mush to me and I didn’t like mushrooms back in the day! But now that my tastebuds have matured and my Green Bean Casserole is made with real, fresh ingredients … I definitely have a new, and higher, opinion of the dish. I mean what’s not to like about an creamy, crispy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious recipe?
What you need for this Green Bean Casserole!
This easy Green Bean Casserole is an absolutely delicious Thanksgiving side dish! I know the traditional recipe calls for canned soup and crispy fried onions, but I switched things up a little bit to be a more wholesome dish. This recipe is made with fresh green beans & mushrooms, sharp white cheddar cheese, crushed crackers for crunch, and lots of other goodness. It might stray a little from the classic green bean casserole, but I would say it is a delicious improvement!!
- Onion: This recipe calls for one whole onion chopped up!
- Green Beans: Green beans are obviously the star of this casserole show! I just used one of those pre-packaged bags from the grocery store.
- Mushrooms: We all know that this casserole is traditionally made with mushroom soup. I of course went with the real deal, fresh baby bella mushrooms! They provide a much better taste & texture.
- Butter: Butter obviously adds a delicious taste to this recipe, but it also add lots of creaminess without the need for any heavy cream or a thick cream based soup.
- Crackers: One of my favorite tricks is to use crushed crackers in a recipe as a sort of bread crumb! I crushed up some crackers to create a perfect crisp topping to this casserole. Ritz or a similar cracker would work perfectly!
- Shredded White Cheddar Cheese: To be honest with you guys, I’m not sure if cheese is traditionally in green bean casserole. But it’s in mine and it’s delicious! Plus, you can never going wrong with some sharp cheddar.
- Garlic Powder: I pretty much add garlic to every recipe and there is no exception here!
- Salt & Pepper: Lots of salt and pepper for the best flavor!
