Maple Balsamic Brussels Sprouts with Turkey Bacon
One of my family’s favorite appetizers or sides to order when at a restaurant is brussels sprouts. If we see it on the menu, we almost always order it! With Thanksgiving coming up and my family’s love for brussels sprouts I knew I had to make my own. To get the family sign of approval though, they must be crispy, preferably in some sort of sweet sauce or glaze, and bonus points for bacon. Let me tell you … these Maple Balsamic Brussels Sprouts with Turkey Bacon check all those boxes. They are so so delicious! These would make for an absolutely perfect Thanksgiving side, but I will also definitely be enjoying all year long!
What you need for these Maple Balsamic Brussels Sprouts!
- turkey bacon
- ghee
- brussels sprouts
- maple syrup
- balsamic vinegar
- salt
- garlic powder
You guys I am not lying to you when I say these are so easy, only needing 7 ingredients, and taste like they could be from a restaurant. I would consider myself quite the restaurant brussels sprouts connoisseur, so trust me! They have a deliciously sweet sauce from the maple syrup and balsamic vinegar and a wonderful smokey flavor from the bacon. Also we all know brussels sprouts have a bad rep, but I think thats because people have been cooking them the wrong way, boiling or steaming, which makes a mushy and soggy brussels sprout. And nobody wants that! But do not worry, these are first blanched and then pan fried to cook the sprout all the way through and get that perfect crisp and crunch!
How to make these Maple Balsamic Brussels Sprouts!
- Wash the brussels sprouts.
- Blanch the sprouts by placing in boiling water for 3-5 minutes.
- While the brussels sprouts are blanching, chop the turkey bacon into small pieces. Pan fry in a little bit of ghee (not listed in ingredients) or by themselves until crispy. Remove from pan.
- Remove brussels sprouts from water and cut in half.
- Place the brussels sprouts face down in the pan that you cooked the bacon in with the heat on medium. Let the brussels sprouts sit and brown. Leave the brussels sprouts face down until they are at your desired crispness, only peaking to make sure they don’t burn!
- While the brussels cook, combine the balsamic vinegar and maple syrup in a pot. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer.
- Once the sprouts are crispy, lower the heat and mix the ghee (the amount listed) and the turkey bacon back in.
- Add the brussels sprouts and bacon to mixing bowl. Add 3 tbsp of the sauce mixture, which should have thickened a little bit, to the sprouts.
- Add salt and garlic powder to taste.
- Enjoy!

- 1 lb brussels sprouts
- 1/4 + 1 tbsp cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp ghee
- salt
- garlic powder

Notes
- This recipe makes more sauce than actually needed for the amount of brussels sprouts. I haven’t tested the recipe in any other quantities, but I believe you could alter the amount of sauce you make or the amount of brussels sprouts used. As long as you have equal parts balsamic vinegar and maple syrup, the sauce and recipe should be delicious.
