Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies are ooey-gooey, chewy perfection! They’ve got a rich buttery flavor, are loaded with melty chocolate chunks, and only call for a few simple ingredients. One bowl and about 30 minutes is all it takes to make these easy cookies. They’re truly the best!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 4 oz semi sweet chocolate bar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

Instructions

  1. Set the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Start by browning the butter.  Add the butter to a pan on the stove over medium heat.  Once the butter has melted, continue cooking & stirring constantly until it turns golden brown in color and smells nutty and very buttery.  Remove the butter from the hot pan once you reach this point so it does not burn.
  3. Add the browned butter to a large mixing bowl along with the brown sugar.  Combine evenly.
  4. Next add in the egg, vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
  5. Then add the dry ingredients – flour & baking powder.  Combine evenly again.
  6. Chop up the chocolate bar and stir into the cookie dough.
  7. Place the dough in the refrigerator to chill for 15 minutes.
  8. Remove from the fridge and roll large tablespoon sized scoops of the dough into balls.  Place the cookies on a greased or lined baking tray about 2 inches apart to make sure they have enough room to spread.  You should be able to make about 14 cookies.
  9. Bake for 12 minutes.
  10. As soon as you remove the cookies from the oven, bang the baking tray flat on the counter a few times and then let cool completely.  These steps are important for the cookies to form.
  11. Enjoy!
