I know some people don’t like turkey burgers as much as beef burgers, but those people have obviously not tried these Spinach & Feta Turkey Burgers before! These healthy turkey burgers are deliciously juicy and are bursting with greek inspired flavors. Turkey feta burgers will be a total crowd pleaser at your next summer barbecue and a hit with the family for an easy weeknight dinner. They truly change the turkey burger game! Ingredients needed for Feta Turkey Burgers…

Spinach & Feta Turkey Burgers only call for a few simple ingredients! These burgers are packed with goodies like salty crumbled feta, sweet caramelized onion, and even sneaky spinach. The greek inspired ingredients make for the perfect juicy and flavorful burgers!

  • Ground Turkey: The base of these turkey burgers is of course ground turkey! You will need 1 lb.
  • Feta Cheese: Crumbled feta cheese adds delicious salty flavor to these healthy burgers. Add 1/4 cup!
  • Red Onion: For this recipe, you will need to caramelize 1 small red onion. This adds an incredible flavor to the turkey burger and also helps to keep them extra juicy!
  • Spinach: These feta turkey burgers call for about a handful of chopped spinach, or more specifically 1 cup! Trust me you won’t be able to taste the leafy green, but it does add a nice nutritious boost.
  • Olive Oil: Olive oil is needed to caramelize the onion in this greek inspired recipe. 1 tbsp is all you need!
  • Garlic Powder, Salt, & Pepper: Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper to these spinach & feta turkey burgers for extra flavor! You’ll need 1 tsp garlic powder and however much salt & pepper your heart desires.
  • Toppings: You can top these easy turkey burgers in any way you like. But I recommend sliced cucumber, juicy tomatoes, red onion, extra crumbled feta, and a smear of mayo or tzatziki sauce. So delicious!

How to make these Caramelized Onion & Feta Turkey Burger…

These turkey burgers don’t take much time or effort at all, but are sure to be a crowd favorite at your next summer barbecue or cookout! The only extra, but completely worth it step, is caramelizing your onion before adding it to the rest of the burger ingredients. Besides that you simply combine and grill up your burgers!

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Start by chopping up the red onion and spinach finely.
  2. Next sauté the chopped onion in the olive oil on medium heat until soft and fragrant. Add a splash of water or more oil if needed!
  3. Then in a large bowl combine the ground turkey, caramelized onions, feta, chopped spinach, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Once combined form the mixture into 6 medium-large balls.
  5. Flatten the balls into burger shapes on a plate or baking tray.
  6. Cook the burgers in anyway you like to cook your burgers! I cooked them on a greased grill pan on the stove until cooked through and browned on both sides. About 3-5 minutes on each side.
  7. Add each burger to a bun & top as you would like.  I recommend sliced cucumber, tomato, red onion, mayo or tzatziki, and extra feta cheese.
  8. Enjoy!

Best toppings for these Healthy Turkey Burgers…

Now you truly cannot go wrong however you top and enjoy these feta turkey burgers. But I do recommend a few key toppings!

I topped my burgers with thinly sliced fresh cucumbers, juicy red tomatoes, red onion, extra crumbled feta, and a smear of mayo (you could also do tzatziki). And let me tell you … the result was fantastic! The refreshing toppings with the flavorful turkey burgers was truly a match made in heaven.

How to store & serve Feta Turkey Burgers…

Serving:

One reason why I love these turkey burgers so much is that they are super versatile! You can enjoy them on a toasted bun with all the toppings described above or completely without them. I’ve had feta turkey burgers in a lettuce wrap, on their own with some scrumptious sides, and in a greek inspired bowl! All have been delicious meals and you simply cannot go wrong with these burgers.

Storing:

These healthy turkey burgers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a week! You can store dinner and barbecue leftovers like this or meal prepped burgers. For meal prep, simply keep these in the fridge and heat up for easy and delicious lunch and dinners throughout the week!

Spinach & Feta Turkey Burgers FAQs…

Are turkey burgers heathy?

I am not a nutritionist or dietician so do not take my word for fact, but yes turkey burgers are a great healthy option! Turkey burgers are generally lower in saturated fat than a beef burger and thus are typically better for your heart health. They are also lower in calories, which means they are great for those on weight loss journeys. These burgers specifically have spinach in them too, which is a great source of of vitamins and minerals!

How long should you cook turkey feta burgers?

You should cook turkey feta burgers for 3-5 minutes on each side! However, the cook time will vary depending on the heat of your grill or stove, the thickness of your burger, and even the pan or lack of pan you are using. Because of this I recommend cooking one burger first to nail the time needed. This way the rest of your burgers will come out perfect!

How do you keep turkey burgers from falling apart?

I have never had an issue with these turkey burgers falling apart. They come out perfect for me each time. If you follow the ingredient list and instructions carefully, they should come out perfect for you too! But if you are having issues with these burgers or perhaps even a different burger recipe, try adding in an egg or some breadcrumbs for extra binding.
