Easy & Healthy Brownies

Last Updated on July 6, 2020 by Kayla Berman

Okay you guys I know I say this a lot buuuut … these easy and healthy brownies are truly one of my favorite recipes that I have ever made!! They are packed with chocolatey goodness, made with wholesome ingredients, and are the perfect, at least in my opinion, fudgy & slightly undercooked texture. And lastly I know we all hate this word … but they are perfectly moist. I’m sorry .. I had to say it! There was simply no other way to describe these brownies. All jokes aside, if you’re looking for a healthier spin on a classic dessert these would be absolutely perfect. They are so decadent & rich that you will truly not miss the original at all!

Easy & Healthy Brownies

The other night, as I was eating the last of my pumpkin brownies that I had stored in the freezer, I decided I urgently needed to make more brownies, and these ones specifically. I thought it was time that I finally made a healthy alternative to one of my favorite desserts. And these are just that! I can totally see this recipe being one of my go-tos and I will definitely be bringing these brownies to family events and making them for special occasions. They are just that good!

What you need for these Easy & Healthy Brownies!

  • coconut sugar
  • almond butter (I recommend a pretty drippy/liquidy almond butter! I love the one from Trader Joe’s)
  • eggs
  • unsweetened apple sauce
  • vanilla extract
  • whole wheat pastry flour
  • cocoa powder
  • almond milk
  • maple syrup
  • baking powder
  • chocolate chips

Now for what makes these guys a healthy alternative to the classic dessert! I used multiple ingredients that I prefer to use over typical baking ingredients like butter, white flour, and white sugar. For the sweetness in the recipe, and in almost all my recipes, I used coconut sugar and maple syrup which makes these refined sugar free! I also used whole wheat pastry flour as opposed to white flour for a more nutritiously dense dessert. I definitely recommend whole wheat pastry flour instead of regular whole wheat flour because it makes for a more soft and light baked good! Another healthy swap made in this recipe, is the use of almond butter and apple sauce in place of butter. Lastly, this recipe uses milk chocolate chips, which I love and think helped add to the decadence and richness of the brownies, but can be replaced with dairy-free chocolate chips for a completely dairy-free dessert!
