Buttery, Flavorful, & Flakey Homemade Garlic Knots

Buttery crescent rolls can be made into so many flakey and delicious creations. Like monkey bread, apple cobbler, peach cobbler, ham and cheese roll-ups or cinnamon rolls.

But probably the best move is to coat these buttery pieces of pastry dough in more butter, cheese, and garlic. And make garlic knots!

Ugh, they are truly a savory side dish masterpiece.

These semi-homemade knots use pre-made refrigerated dough which makes them incredibly easy! No rolling pin or kneading needed.

Stuffed and topped with parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, fresh garlic, and butter … this recipe puffs up into big beautiful, crispy knots. They are an amazing side dish or appetizer to any pizza or pasta night!

Ingredients

Crescent Roll Garlic Knots are a flavorful, yet easy recipe with only 6 ingredients!

Ingredient Notes

  • Crescent Rolls: You will nee 2 cans of crescent rolls for this simple recipe. Any brand or type should work, but I always use Pillsbury.
  • Butter: These rolls are deliciously buttery and rich. Which means you need butter! 1/2 cup of salted butter specifically. You could also use unsalted butter and add salt to taste.
  • Cheese: This recipe calls for two types of cheese, mozzarella and parmesan. The result is golden brown cheesy perfection. Add 1/2 cup parmesan and 1 cup mozzarella.
  • Garlic: Garlic! The most important ingredient in any homemade garlic bread or knot. You’ll need 1 1/2 tbsp of fresh minced garlic. Or however much garlic your heart desires.
  • Italian Seasoning: 1 tsp of Italian seasoning is used in the garlic herb butter. It adds all the right flavor!

Substitutions & Additions

There are a few substitutions and additions you could make to these cheesy garlic knots to meet your personal preferences, tastes, or needs!

Dough: I have not tested the recipe with anything other than crescent roll dough, but I think you could use breadstick dough or pizza dough. You just may need a slightly different method for stuffing the dough or skip the stuffing all together and put all the garlic butter on the outside.

Cheese: Any type of cheese you enjoy should work here. I love parmesan and mozzarella for the Italian flavor, but you could try others as well. Perhaps provolone or cheddar.

Fresh Herbs: Fresh herbs would add an incredible flavor, brightness, and freshness to this recipe. Add fresh parsley, oregano, or basil.

Garlic Powder: You could add extra flavor to these knots with garlic powder, or entirely replace the fresh garlic with it. Fresh will produce the best results, but if you don’t have it powder will work just fine!

Mix-Ins: Adding some mix-ins to these knots would be such a tasty option! Mini pepperoni, shredded chicken, spinach, or broccoli would be delicious. You could even try adding a mozzarella stick for an ooey-gooey result.
