Caramelized Onion & Feta Turkey Burgers

Hello friends!  It is basically summer and that means barbecue season is upon us.  Honestly, I love everything about barbecues!  I love the food, the outdoor eating, bringing friends and family together, and basically how they mean it is summertime!  And I for one think that is the best time of the year.  So in honor of barbecue season I present to you Caramelized Onion & Feta Turkey Burgers.  They totally elevate the classic turkey burger and are just downright delicious!

What you need for these Caramelized Onion & Feta Turkey Burgers!

  • ground turkey
  • red onion
  • feta cheese
  • spinach
  • garlic powder
  • salt
  • olive oil

The base of these turkey burgers is obviously ground turkey! But you could also totally use ground chicken or ground beef if you prefer. Then for the caramelized onion I used a small red onion, but you could also swap this for a yellow onion! Next up, there is feta cheese which gives these burgers an incredible flavor. The feta gets mixed throughout the burgers and provides little bites of salty goodness. There is also a handful of chopped spinach to get some greens in and you can’t even tell that it’s there! Lastly for flavor we’ve got garlic powder, my favorite, and of course salt.

How to make these Caramelized Onion & Feta Turkey Burgers!

  1. Chop up the red onion and spinach.
  2. Sauté the chopped onion in olive oil on medium heat until soft and fragrant. Add a splash of water or more oil if needed!
  3. In a large bowl combine the ground turkey, caramelized onions, feta, chopped spinach, garlic powder, and pinch of salt.
  4. Once combined, form the mixture into 6 medium-large balls.
  5. Flatten the balls into burger shapes on a plate or baking tray, so that they are ready to cook.
  6. Cook the burgers in anyway you like to cook your burgers! I cooked them on a greased grill pan on the stove until cooked through and browned on both sides. About 3-5 minutes on each side.
  7. Enjoy!
